Customize the Settings

LinkCentral allows you to customize several settings, such as those for your short links, for how data is tracked, and more. Here’s a step-by-step guide that explains what each setting does.

General settings

Link Settings

Custom URL PrefixThis setting determines the base structure of your short links. By default, LinkCentral uses “go” as the URL prefix. This means your short links will look like: https://yoursite.com/go/your-custom-slug

You can change this prefix to anything you prefer by selecting another option from the list or selecting “Custom” and writing your custom slug.

Please keep the following in mind when changing the Custom URL Prefix:

  • Avoid Conflicts: Ensure your chosen prefix doesn’t conflict with existing page or category slugs on your site.
  • Length: Shorter prefixes and slugs are generally easier for users to remember and share.
  • Consistency: Once you choose a prefix, it’s best to stick with it to maintain consistency.

Global Link Attributes

These settings are globally applied to your links. Each setting can be overridden for individual links.

Global No-Follow AttributeWhen enabled, all links will have the rel=”nofollow” attribute, telling search engines not to follow these links.
Global Sponsored AttributeWhen enabled, all links will have the rel=”sponsored” attribute, indicating that they are paid or sponsored links.
Global Redirection TypeChoose the default redirection type for all links. You can choose between 307, 302 and 301.
Global Parameter ForwardingWhen enabled, query parameters from the custom URL will be appended to the destination URL.

Example: if you add ?utm_campaign=test to the end of your custom slug, the parameter will automatically be appended to the destination URL.
Global CSS ClassesAdd custom CSS classes to be applied to the <a> tag of all link insertions. Separate multiple classes with spaces. Gutenberg Buttons are not supported because those CSS classes are difficult for LinkCentral to reliably adjust.

Please note: All links inserted using LinkCentral’s synchronized insertion methods (such as shortcodes or editor integrations) will automatically update to reflect the new global settings, unless overwritten individually. However, any links you manually copied and pasted into your content will continue to use the old settings. Manually inserted links should be updated by yourself to reflect your desired settings.

Tracking

Disable ReportingWhen checked, no click data will be collected or stored and all further tracking settings below will be ignored.
Track IP AddressWhen enabled, the IP address of the user will be recorded with each click. When disabled, it won’t be saved and and therefore not show up in the Insights.
Track User AgentWhen checked, the user agent of the user will be recorded with each click. This information is used to display browser icons in the insights.
Track Unique VisitorsWhen enabled, a cookie will be set to track unique visitors. This setting enables the Unique Click statistics on the Insights page.
Enable Google AnalyticsWhen enabled, Google Analytics 4 data will be sent. See here for more info.
Excluded IP AddressesA list of IP addresses that will be excluded from tracking, one unique IP address per line.
Excluded User RolesSelect user roles to exclude from tracking. If someone is signed in as a user with one of these roles, their clicks will not be recorded.
Exclude BotsWhen checked, clicks from known bots will be filtered and not recorded.

Deletion

Delete Tracking Data on Link DeletionIf enabled, all associated click tracking data for a link will be permanently deleted when that link is deleted from the system.
Enable Data ExpiryIf enabled, tracking data older than the specified number of days (90, 180 or 365 days) will be automatically deleted.

Plugin

Default Insertion TypeChoose the default link insertion method to be pre-selected when adding new links into your website. This is used when adding links using the Gutenberg and Visual Editor integrations.
